MAMMOGRAPHY VIDEO THUMBNAIL USE

Mammography is a specialised, low-dose X-ray examination used to create detailed images of breast tissue. It may be performed as a routine screening examination to identify breast changes before symptoms develop or as a diagnostic examination to investigate concerns such as a lump, pain, nipple discharge or an area requiring further assessment. During the examination, each breast is carefully positioned and briefly compressed between two plates to produce clear images while using the lowest practical radiation dose. The imaging itself usually takes only a few minutes, although the complete appointment may take longer depending on the number of images required.

Our experienced mammography team will explain each stage of the examination, help position you correctly and support your comfort throughout the appointment. The compression may feel firm or briefly uncomfortable, but it generally lasts only a few seconds for each image, and you should tell the radiographer if you experience pain. Before your appointment, you may be advised not to apply deodorant, powder or lotion to the breast or underarm area, as these products can affect the images. Please also let the team know if you have breast implants, previous breast surgery, breast symptoms or any possibility of pregnancy. With a respectful, patient-focused approach, we aim to make your mammography experience as efficient, private and reassuring as possible.
